Functions / Retreats

Equipped with wifi and private tables, The Watervale Hotel Guesthouse is an ideal space for workshops, retreats and small functions for up to 12 inside or 16 outside.

We can tailor a retreat that includes a farm tour, chef’s table dining experience and Chef prepared meals in the Guesthouse.

It is great to use the Hotel space, but also useful to ‘retreat’ into your own space for private discussions and de-brief.

Conferences / Workshops

Having a variety of spaces and environments and experiences allows conference coordinators to keep things fresh and stimulating.

We can utilise the shearing shed at Penobscot Farm or spaces at Quelltaler for larger groups.

We can even incorporate visits to local wineries, vineyards,  or utilise other spaces for external catering.

Let us tailor a programme that works for you.

“We had our work Christmas Lunch in the Hell Hole Jail – what an awesome place!  Comfortably sat 18 of us, with full table service. Numerous plates of food for entrée and main placed along the table to share meant we didn’t go hungry and got to experience different flavours using local produce from Penobscot Farm and other local suppliers, the food was so fresh and delicious. We had the choice of a dessert or cheese platter – again, no complaints.  Loved the fact we had the area to ourselves and could stand outside on the terrace and look down over the beer garden area (with our own toilet too!). Warrick spent the time to explain the history of the hotel and the Hell Hole (don’t be fooled by the name, it’s certainly not a Hell Hole!)  and the waiting staff were lovely.  There were plenty of comments made of “lets come back next year”…. Thanks for a fantastic day!  Do yourselves a favour and book in a long lunch in the Hell Hole, you won’t be disappointed 😊” Dayna Bache, MGA

Influenced by the local flavours of The Clare Valley

venues

quelltaler winery

The Watervale Hotel has exclusive access to the historic Quelltaler Winery site and its range of amazing indoor and outdoor spaces ideal for weddings, functions and corporate events. Depending on the spaces required booking fees will range from $2,000 to $5,000.

the shearing shed

The old Shearing Shed at Penobscot Farm is an ideal function venue.

  • Ideal for weddings, anniversaries or birthdays for up to 100 seated guests.
  • The catering will be managed by the Watervale Hotel.
  • The Penobscot Shearing Shed can be booked with a $1,000 venue fee and a minimum catering charge.

the beer garden

Whilst our beer garden is generally a public space it can be closed for functions or weddings. It will seat around 180, but when the Hell Hole jail and terrace is added the capacity will reach 220.

We can fire up the ‘Fires of Hell’ wood oven and BBQ to create a memorable catered experience.

To close this space we will require a $25,000 minimum spend covering all food and drinks.

watervale hotel guesthouse

The Watervale Hotel Guesthouse sleeps 6 couples, and can seat up to 12 inside or 16 outside next to the BBQ in this child and dog friendly enclosed space.

It is ideal for mini-conferences, workshops and retreats. Ideal too for out of Valley guests utilising the Hotel facilities for larger functions with local friends or colleagues.

Perfect for bridal parties or the family of the bride.

the hell hole jail

The Hell Hole was a jail built in 1868. It is an amazing and very rustic environment for meetings, conferences, Christmas parties or small weddings.

We have it fitted with a board room table that seats 18, but the entire area including outside terrace can take numbers to 40.

There is a private, unisex ambulant toilet we call ‘solitary confinement’.

private dining rooms

There are two private dining rooms under the main roof of the Hotel for small meetings, and private functions.

The Green Room is limited to 6 whilst the Purple Room can take 8 to 10.

all organic

Our menu is becoming increasingly seasonal as we are growing more and more of our needs at our own Penobscot Farm, an organic and bio-dynamic farm one kilometer down the road.
