The Clare Valley is a haven of local events, from music festivals to wine festivals to SALA exhibitions. No matter the time of the year there is always something happening!

Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend
Annually in May

Held every year at the end of vintage, it started as a celebration to taste all the new wines in their earliest forms well before they hit the bottle. Now it is a celebration of the region’s award winning wines, local food and country hospitality. More than 25 wineries participate in the event, with numerous special events and degustation dinners. 2021 will see the 37th year of this event.


Spring Soiree

Treat your senses and breathe in the best of Clare with a killer line up of food, small batch winemakers, beer, cocktails, live art, live music and DJ’s to get your hips swinging into the night. We look forward to seeing this event back later this year.



Burra AGL Country Music Festival


A three day country music event held in Burra’s showgrounds from Friday 20th to Sunday 22 November in 2020.
Make your way via lunch at the Watervale Hotel on Friday 20th November.

The Burra Picnic Races

The Burra Picnic Races are held in late October, generally on Cox Plate Day. This non-TAB picnic race meeting run at Thistlebeds Station east of Burra on a dirt track.Catering to a crowd of all ages, both from local surrounds and visitors from afar, the Burra Picnic Races proudly supports the Royal Flying Doctor Service and raises significant funds for local community groups and organisations.
Racegoers can enjoy a wide range of events, from horse racing and gymkhana, to fun family friendly spectator activities including Fashions on the Field, wheelbarrow races, tug ‘o’ war, sheep racing and a bouncy castle.

For more traditional race-goers, The Clare Valley Cup is run at the Clare racecourse north of Clare on Sunday 22nd November in 2020. This is a non-TAB meeting.
Sunday March 7th will bring racing back to Clare in 2021.
The main race meeting of the year in Clare is arguably Saturday the 3rd of April 2021 – Easter Saturday – aligning with strong racing at Oakbank, Randwick and Caulfield for TAB punters.
The Watervale Hotel is an ideal place to head after the Races. The beer garden and jail terrace can cater for up to 200 people. The ‘fires of hell’ will ignite for special evenings such as this.

Motor Vehicle Racing

For those who like a few more horsepower under the bonnet, the Rally of the Heartland will return on the Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th of May in 2021 featuring windfarm stages of up to approximately 38km. These are exciting, challenging and very technical stages that provide unparalleled competition, and are unique in Australia.
It will be an over 400-kilometre competitive event based in the Hallett/Burra/Mount Bryan/Terowie area.
Competitors and enthusiasts are recommended to chill out after the event in the Clare Valley wine region, and in particular the Watervale Hotel.
